Use the Giphy app in Google Chat

Use the Giphy app in Chat to add GIFs to your chats.

Tip: You can also send GIFs from your computer. To send a GIF, click Add GIF .

Before you begin

• You need permission to install apps from your Google Workspace administrator.
• Add the app to Chat. Learn how to find apps and add them to Chat.

Use the Giphy app in Chat

1. Open Google Chat.
2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
3. Enter a search query, using any keyword, such as "cats" or "funny:"
   • query—Adds the first GIF that matches the query with the set rating.
     • In spaces, enter @Giphy query or /Giphy query.
     • To remove the GIF, click the GIF Try again or Delete.
   • choose query—Adds a group of 25 GIFs that match the query with the set rating.
     • In spaces, enter @Giphy choose query or /Giphy choose query.
     • To move through the GIFs, click Next or Back.

Change the content rating of GIFs

The app shows GIFs that are rated G unless you change the default setting. You can find the current rating and change it.

1. Open Google Chat.
2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
3. Enter rating.
   • In spaces, enter @Giphy rating or /Giphy rating.
   • The app displays the current content rating.
4. Enter rating [Y,G,PG,Pi-gno/re-d13,R].
   • In spaces, enter @Giphy rating [Y,G,PG,Pi-gno/re-d13,R] or /Giphy rating [Y,G,PG,Pi-gno/re-d13,R].
   • For example, to set the content rating of GIFs to G, enter rating G.
