Name a group direct message or convert it into a space

In a group direct message, you can:

• Name it without the need to convert it into a space.
• Convert it into a space.

Name a group direct message

To personalize or find a group direct message easily, name the chat.

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app or Gmail app .
   • In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat .
2. Select a group direct message.
3. At the top, tap the chat name Name this chat .
4. Enter a chat name.
5. Tap Save.

Convert a group direct message into a space

To share files, assign tasks, and connect with others easily, convert a group direct message to a space.

Note: Group direct messages created via continuous meeting chat cannot be converted to spaces.

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app or Gmail app .
   • In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat .
2. Select a group direct message.
3. At the top, tap the chat name Turn this chat into a space .
4. Enter a space name.
5. Tap Create.
