You can send a voice message to a person or group in Google Chat and transcribe these voice messages into text.
Send a voice message
Important: If this is the first time you send a voice message to a particular person, they must accept your message request before you can chat with them.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chat app
or Gmail app

- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat
.
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat
- In the bottom navigation menu, tap New chat
.
- Enter a name or email address, then tap Done.
- When you enter a name or email address, you can get suggestions.
- To start a group DM, add more names or email addresses.
- In the reply area, tap the mic
.
- Your voice message begins to record.
- To send, tap the stop button
Send
.
- To delete your recording, tap Delete
.
View or hide voice message transcription
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chat app
or Gmail app
.
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat
.
- In Gmail: At the bottom, tap Chat
- Tap a conversation, direct message, or space.
- To view the voice message transcript, below the voice message, tap View transcript.
- Sender: Tap below the voice message

- Receiver: Tap below the voice message
View transcript.
- Sender: Tap below the voice message
- To hide the transcript, tap Hide transcript.
