Check your network
Make sure you have an active internet connection.
Refresh Google Chat
You can exit and reopen the Chat app. If you access Google Chat from a browser, refresh a tab or window with chat.google.com.
Check your browser
If you access Google Chat from a browser, make sure you use a supported browser. Chat in Gmail isn’t supported in mobile browsers or in Internet Explorer.
Uninstall browser extensions & apps
Some extensions and apps might block Google Chat from loading. To fix this issue, you can:
- Uninstall active extensions.
- Uninstall active apps.
- Browse privately to avoid the use of extensions.

- If you use a browser other than Chrome, check its support page for help.
- Anti-virus software may prevent Google Chat from loading.
Check blocked domains & site permissions
Make sure your browser doesn’t block these sites:
- chat.google.com
- mail.google.com/chat
- mail.google.com/sync
- chat.google.com/u/0/webchannel/register
