Starting and joining 3D Beam meetings will feel familiar if you've used Meet before. However, there are several key differences for 3D Beam meetings because of Beam's emphasis on 1:1 communication:
- Both Beam rooms and all of the meeting participants must be included in the meeting invite. Go to Schedule a 3D Beam meeting for instructions.
- If more than one participant is in a Beam room (for example, if someone is taking notes but not onscreen), the person who is not onscreen should stay out of view of the cameras. If that's not possible, you should switch the meeting to a standard Meet call using the touchscreen.
- You must join from the Beam room touchscreen instead of your laptop. Once the Beam meeting is underway, you can then join from your laptop in Companion mode if you want to present or use chat. Go to Present to a 3D Beam meeting for instructions.
If you join a meeting with a Beam room that's in another organization, be sure to join at or just after the meeting start time. Joining early causes an access error.
Start or join a scheduled meeting
To start or join a 3D Beam meeting, tap the meeting name on the touchscreen in the Beam room.
If you are first to join, you'll see a "You're the first one here" notification, and, the welcome screen continues to display until your meeting partner joins. If you're second to join, you'll see them once the rooms are connected.
You can join in Companion mode from your laptop if needed.
If you're joining a meeting with someone in another organization, be sure to join after the scheduled start time. Go to Schedule a 3D Beam meeting for more information.
Start an instant meeting
To start an instant meeting:
- On the touchscreen, tap More ways to join.
- Add a meeting nickname if you want, then click Create. If you don't add a nickname, a meeting code is automatically generated. After a few seconds, your call enters the waiting state.
- Share the meeting nickname or code with your meeting partner. They can then join from a Beam room at their location.
Join an instant meeting
To join an instant meeting:
- Go to a Beam room.
- Get the meeting nickname or code from your meeting partner.
- On the touchscreen, tap More ways to join and enter the meeting nickname or code to join the meeting.
Exit a 3D meeting
When the meeting is done, both participants must tap Exit on the touchscreen to leave the meeting and prepare the room for the next meeting. The main screen displays a "Leaving…" message and returns to the welcome screen.
