Android 11 Caterpilar S62 pro device. Hey google does not work with screen off.

Question

I turned on assistant on on lock screen, gemini on on lock screen, retrained the voice model, toggled these settings on and off. Battery optimization is disabled. Access granted to microphone. Could anyone help? Next move is bloody Iphone.

Hi Sebyboy, The Caterpillar S62 Pro, despite being a rugged and capable device, does not support hotword detection ("Hey Google") when the screen is off or the device is idle due to hardware limitations and missing always-on DSP (Digital Signal Processor) in the chipset.  This is not a Google Assistant or settings issue — it's tied to how the phone's low-power mic listening feature is implemented (or not) at the firmware/chipset level.
Note: Even Pixel phones disable hotword detection with screen off if battery saver is on or if the phone doesn't support “always-on” mic mode — so this issue isn’t unique to Caterpillar, but the S62 Pro lacks some deep hardware support.
