Turn dark theme on or off
- On your phone, open the Settings app.
- Tap Display.
- Turn Dark theme on or off.
Tip: You can make your screen easier to read and can save battery on some screens with dark theme.
Stop dark theme from automatic turn onIf you see a dark color scheme but didn’t turn on Dark theme, it could be that battery saver is on. When battery saver is on, Dark theme may turn on automatically. On some phones, battery saver turns on automatically when the phone’s battery charge falls below a certain percentage, like 15%.
Turn off battery saver
- On your phone, open the Settings app.
- Tap Battery

Turn off now.
Tip: You can't use battery saver in light theme. If you want to use light theme, you need to turn off battery saver.
- On your phone, open the Settings app.
- Tap Battery

Set a schedule.
- Choose No schedule.
Turn on dark theme’s expanded option
Important:
- When in use, some issues may occur. These include inadvertently inverted images or unreadable text. You can always switch back to the "standard" option under dark theme.
- If the expanded option is on, but an app still appears light:
- The app may not support the expanded option yet. It can be on a block list from your device's manufacturer.
- The app may have opted out of supporting dark theme's expanded option.
- Open your device’s Settings app.
- Tap Display & touch

- To turn dark theme on or off: Tap the Quick Settings dark theme tile

Fix issues with apps that show in dark theme
Dark theme isn't available for all apps.
Important: When you turn on dark theme for your device or when battery saver is on, many apps will also use dark theme.
To check an app’s theme settings:
- If dark theme is on but an app is light, the app probably doesn’t offer dark theme.
- If light theme is on but an app is dark, it could be:
- Dark theme is on for the app, but not for the whole device. To check, open the app’s settings and find “Theme” or “Display” options. Specifics vary by app.
- The app uses a dark color scheme, and it can’t be changed.
Change the color scheme
- On your phone, go to the Settings app.
- Tap Wallpaper & style.
- To change the color palette of your wallpaper, tap Wallpaper colors and select the color palette you like.
- To change the color of your tabs to a specific color, tap Basic colors and select the color you like.
