Chat with your Gemini mobile app to supercharge your ideas. Get help learning in new ways, writing thank-you notes, planning events and more. Gemini can connect with apps, such as Gmail, Maps and YouTube, making it easy to get things done. Use text, voice, images and your camera to get help in new ways.
Your Gemini mobile app may be any of the following:
- On Android: The Gemini app, including as your mobile assistant.
- On iOS: The Gemini app.

If you have access to Gemini Apps with a work or school account, some Gemini mobile app features aren't available. This includes features that are powered by Google Assistant, such as quick voice action features. Learn how these users can access the Gemini mobile app.
On iPhones, you can chat with Gemini in the Gemini mobile app. You can chat by voice or typing, go Live to have a real-time conversation, create images and get help while you're on the go. Interact with it through text, voice, images and your camera to get help in new ways.
What you need

A personal Google Account or a work or school Google Account that has access to Gemini Apps.
- If you're using a work or school account, check if you have a plan or licence that includes access to Gemini Apps.
- If you manage a Google Account with Family Link, you can turn off access to Gemini Apps for users under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) in Google Family Link settings.
- You must be signed in to your Google Account.
- An eligible device that you use in an available language and country or territory. Learn more about Gemini mobile app availability.
Use the Gemini app

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gemini app

Make sure that you're signed in to your Google Account.
- To chat with Gemini, select an option:
- To enter your prompt, tap Keyboard
, then enter your prompt.
- To say your prompt, tap Microphone
, then say your prompt.
- To go Live, tap Live
.
- To enter your prompt, tap Keyboard
Start chats with Gemini from your lock screen
To add Gemini as a lock screen widget:
- From the lock screen of your iPhone or iPad, press and hold an empty area on screen
- At the bottom, tap Customise
Customise Current Wallpaper
Add widgets.
- Scroll to select Gemini, then choose the option that you want to add.
- From the lock screen of your iPhone or iPad, press and hold an empty area on screen
- At the bottom, tap Customise
Customise Current Wallpaper.
- Choose a current control icon to remove, then tap Add
.
- Scroll to find Gemini, then choose the option you want to add.
Tip: You can also access the lock screen when your phone is unlocked. To open it, swipe down from the top-left part of the screen.
- On your iPhone or iPad, swipe down from the top right edge of the screen.
- Press and hold in the empty space below your Control Centre icons.
- At the bottom, tap Add a Control

- Scroll to select Gemini, then choose the option you want to add.
Your Gemini mobile app and your location
Location data is always collected if you use Gemini Apps so that they can provide you with a response that is relevant to your query. For example, to respond to prompts like 'What's the weather?', Gemini Apps need to know your location. Learn more about the location information that Gemini Apps collect, why and how it's used.
The Gemini mobile app may use your precise device location to provide you with more relevant responses. When you use Gemini, it uses the location permissions that you choose for the Google app . Learn more about location permissions.
To check if the Gemini app is accessing and using your precise location:
- On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
- Tap Location
App location permissions.
- Tap Google

- Check whether 'Use precise location' is on

- If it’s on
, Gemini and other services in the Google app (like Search) can access and use your precise location.
- If it's off
, Gemini and other services in the Google app (like Search) cannot access and use your precise location.
- If it’s on
- Choose location access for the app: Always, While Using the App, Ask Next Time or Never.
Tip: Turning off your device location will impact other features and services hosted by the Google app, like Weather and nearby results from Search.
