About vignette ads

Vignette ads are full-screen ads that appear between page loads and can be skipped by users at any time.

  • By default, vignette ads appear when a user clicks on a link on your site.
  • You can allow additional triggers for vignette ads to help you capture more revenue from engaged users with minimal disruption to their experience.
  • You can decide how often vignette ads are shown to your users by choosing the frequency for your vignette ads.

Additional triggers for vignette ads

When you turn on vignette ads, you're automatically opted into a suite of additional triggers that allow vignettes to appear based on specific user interactions. Additional triggers are optional. If you don't want to allow them, you can opt out of additional triggers.

Additional triggers show vignette ads when a user:

  • Unhides a tab/window (for example, when they revisit a tab/window after going to another tab/window, revisit a tab/window after unlocking the device screen, or maximize a window after minimizing it)
  • Clicks the browser's navigation bar (desktop only)
  • Opens a page within the same site in a new browser tab and then switches to that tab.
  • Reaches the end of a page's main article element and either they start scrolling back up, or 5 seconds elapse on mobile or 10 seconds on desktop.
  • Is inactive for at least 30 seconds followed by user interaction (the timer starts after the last user interaction–for example, a scroll or click).
  • Navigates backward using their browser's back button on supported browsers (currently Chrome, Edge, and Opera).
Notes:
  • Vignettes respect the frequency you set, even if a user triggers multiple actions that can display a vignette.
  • Users can immediately close vignettes by using either the browser back button or the close button in the ad itself.
