Side rail ads are overlay ads that stick to the sides of the screen as page is scrolled. They're only available on desktop.

Quick start
Get started by turning on side rail ads for your site.
How to turn on side rail ads
- Sign in to your AdSense account.
- Click Ads.
- In the table of all your sites, click Edit
next to your site. Your site opens in the ad settings preview.
Tip: You can use the preview to try out different ad settings before your Auto ads go live. - Under "Ad settings", turn on Auto ads.
- Under "Overlay formats", make sure the Side rail ads option is selected.
- Click Apply to site

Choose your save option:
- Click Apply now, then Save, to immediately apply your Auto ads settings to your site.
Or
- Click Run experiment first, then Run experiment, to test your Auto ads settings.
AdSense will run an experiment on 50% of your site's traffic for 90 days. The experiment will finish when we've collected enough data. Learn more about Auto ads experiments.
- Click Apply now, then Save, to immediately apply your Auto ads settings to your site.
Track the performance of side rail ads
- Visit the Reports page in AdSense.
- Create a custom report.
- Click filter
, click Ad format, and then select Side rail ads.
- Click Apply.
FAQs
Can I exclude side rail ads from certain parts of my page?
Yes. To stop side rail ads from showing in a specific section of your page, add the google-side-rail-overlap="false" parameter to the HTML element that holds that section.
This example shows you how to prevent all of the elements inside a specific div on your page from showing side rail ads:
