This article describes how to allow JavaScript in Google Chrome, which is required to display some media, including some Google ads. It also provides links to the documentation to turn on, activate or enable JavaScript in other popular browsers.
Turn on JavaScript in Google Chrome
You can set permissions in Google Chrome for all sites, or for specific sites that you choose. Follow these instructions to turn on JavaScript for your computer, Android and Apple devices.
On your computer
To set permissions for JavaScript:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top right, click
then Settings.
- Click Privacy and security, then Site settings, then JavaScript.
- Select Sites can use JavaScript as the default behaviour.
From this screen, you can also add sites that are not allowed to use JavaScript or choose 'Don't allow sites to use JavaScript' as the default behaviour, and then choose specific sites that are allowed.
On your Android phone or tablet
To set permissions for JavaScript:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Chrome.
- At the top right, tap More
Settings.
- Under "Advanced," tap Site settings
- Turn on Javascript.

- JavaScript is turned on by default for iPhone and iPad.

If you use a supported browser other than Chrome, check its support page for instructions on how to turn on JavaScript. If you’re not sure whether your browser supports JavaScript, check its support page.

Factors that may affect your browsers JavaScript setting
Browser upgrades, security software or patches may change a JavaScript setting. If you have problems viewing Google ads, you should confirm that JavaScript is allowed in your browser.
Some browsers allow you to set the JavaScript setting to 'Prompt', which displays a warning when JavaScript is required. In these instances, if a Google ad requires JavaScript, users have the option to give permission to load the content.
