Report on targeting keys

To report on inventory with targeting keys, you can use the "Key-values" dimension, the "Custom dimensions" category, or the "Enhanced key-values dimensions" category.

When reporting on key-value delivery for an order or line item, use targeted impression metrics, such as "Ad server targeted impressions." Otherwise, all key-values present on the matching request will be returned.

Note that key-values appear in Data Transfer reports independent of the "Reportable" setting of a key, as long as the key is added in Ad Manager.

Tip: Make sure your key-value reporting stays within system limits.

Reporting options

There are three ways to report on the keys:

  • Key-values dimension: Use the "Key-values" dimension to report on all keys. When you use the Key-values dimension, an overlap can occur which may be associated with multiple keys and values.
  • Custom dimensions: This is a dimension category that contains frequently used predefined keys. You can select the keys you want to report on. Data is displayed in reports for custom dimensions only if the custom dimension key's predefined value was explicitly included in the request. Only impressions recorded after adding a custom dimension are included in reports that use the custom dimension. Review limits for Custom dimensions.
  • Enhanced key-values: This is a dimension category that contains all key-values marked as "Add key as Enhanced key-values dimension” in a key’s settings. As with Custom dimensions, you can select the keys you want to report on in this category in your report; however, all of the allowable 200 targeting keys and 100,000 values per key can be used. Set up keys for reporting

Before you can report on key-values, you have to set up the keys. When you make a key reportable:

  • Undefined values won't appear in reporting, even if their key is reportable. The values must be defined first.
  • Reports covering dates before a key is added to reporting won't display data for the key.
  • All values defined for that key are also included in reports from that time forward.

You can report on an existing key-value or a new key-value, as long as it’s set up for reporting. After you set them up for reporting, their "Reportable" status changes to "On." An image of the Key-values page, highlighting the "Reportable" status column

Only targeting keys marked "Reportable" are available for inclusion in your report.

To set up a key for reporting:

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
  2. Click Inventory, and then Key-values
  3. Create a new key-value, or click an existing key-value.
    Learn more about creating key-values.
  4. Under "Settings," locate the reporting section.
  5. Select an option for key-value reporting:
    • To make Enhanced key-values reportable, next to "Add key as Enhanced key-values dimension," check the box. Note that this option is only applicable to networks with Enhanced key-values enabled. When Enhanced key-values are enabled for the network, all keys are included by default. Selecting this option does not impact the inclusion of the key as a “Key-values” dimension or "Custom" dimension.
Note: By default, your key-values are reported as Enhanced key-values. To remove key-values, in your key value configuration, uncheck the box for "Add key as Enhanced key-value dimension."
    • To make the "Key-values" dimension reportable, next to "Additional reporting options," click Expand or view more and select Include values in the Key-values dimension
    • To make Custom dimensions reportable, next to "Additional reporting options," click Expand or view more and select Include values in the Key-values dimension & add key as custom dimension.
  6. Make your other selections to set up the key-value and click Save.
On the "Key-values" page, the "Reportable" column shows "On" if the key is enabled for reporting. Reportable custom dimensions are indicated as "Custom dimension."
