Create, use & manage your avatar

An avatar is a unique digital version of you, created from selfie and voice recordings you provide. It allows you to create AI content that looks and sounds like you.

Create and use your avatar

You can record your selfie and voice to create your avatar in Google Flow, Gemini Apps, or YouTube. Once you have created your avatar, you can use it to make AI videos. You're in control of where your avatar is created and used.

Tip: Once you create your avatar in Gemini and Google Flow, you can use the same avatar for AI videos in both of those apps. Your YouTube avatar is created and managed separately, in YouTube.

Tips to record your face and voice

To make sure your recording is accepted, follow these tips:

  • Phone position: Hold your phone at eye level.
  • Lighting: Use lighting that is not too dim or too bright.
  • Visibility: Ensure your eyes, nose, and mouth are visible. Glasses are fine to keep on, but no sunglasses, masks, or hats.
  • Audio environment: Choose a quiet area to record your voice. There should be no other voices in the background.
  • Background: Check that there are no people or images of faces in your background.
  • Account owner: The account owner must complete this process. Do not allow minors to record themselves.
  • Selfie directions: Follow the prompts to perform an action. After you turn your head in one direction, turn your head back to the center.

Manage your recording

Your recording is what is being used to create your avatar. If you have created a recording, you can delete your recording and preview your avatar in your Google Account. You can access details like:

  • Creation details: When and where your avatar was created
  • Use: In which services you’ve used your avatar
  • Avatar preview: A sample image of your avatar

Delete or preview your recording

You are in control of your recordings. You can delete them at any time in your Google Account settings.

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. At the top or left, select Data & privacy and then Other settings.
  3. Scroll down and select Recordings for your avatar.
  4. Select Delete under the selfie and voice recording you’d like to delete.
    1. You can also preview your avatar by selecting Preview image.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Manage your recordings

Tip: If you don’t use or access your recordings for 3 years, they will be automatically deleted.

When you delete your recordings:

  • You will not be able to create new AI-generated content with that avatar. To create new content, you will need to go back to the app or service you want to use, and create a new avatar by re-recording your selfie and voice.
  • Your recorded selfie and voice data for that avatar will be removed from Google's systems.
  • Videos or content you already made and published with that avatar are not deleted. To delete content created with your avatar, go to the service or app, like Google Flow, Gemini, or YouTube.

Tip: If you create an avatar in YouTube, you will be able to manage your YouTube avatar and recordings in your YouTube settings, not in your Google Account settings. Deleting your recordings here does not delete your recordings stored in your YouTube channel. Deleting your YouTube recordings does not delete the recordings in your Google Account. Understand privacy & your avatar

Google has designed the avatar feature to protect your privacy and put you in control of your recordings.

How your data is collected & used

When you create an avatar in Google Flow and Gemini, your face and voice data are recorded and securely stored in your Google Account.

When you use this feature, the recordings of your face and voice (“your recordings”), and data derived and generated from your recordings, are used for the following purposes:

  • Content Generation: Allow you to generate new content using your avatar across certain Google services such as Google Flow and Gemini.
  • Safety & Security: To protect Google, our users, and the public, including with help from human reviewers. For example, we may use the data to verify that you're a real person giving Google permission to create an avatar of yourself. We may also use this data to improve safety and security across our services, including AI safety.

Your recordings are not used to identify you or anyone else. Google will not sell your recordings to any third party. Google will not share your data with third parties except as permitted by the Google Privacy Policy. Note that certain face and voice data, and data derived and generated from that data, may be considered biometric data in certain jurisdictions.

We don’t use your recordings to train the generative AI models powering our services, except to address abuse or harm.
