Use your linked ID to verify it’s you

When you link your digital ID with your account, you can use it to verify it’s really you when you take sensitive actions within your Google Account, like changing your password or visiting a protected page. Linking your digital ID makes it much harder for an attacker to pretend to be you in an attempt to hijack your account.

  1. When you attempt a sensitive action, you’ll get a prompt to share your info with Google.
  2. Tap Agree and Continue.
  3. To verify it’s you with your linked ID, tap Share.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

How your info is protected when you link your digital ID

Google won’t store any of your personally identifying information when you link your ID. Instead, Google creates a secret digital code for your ID called a cryptographic hash. We keep this code securely in our system.

None of the data from your ID is associated with your account in any other way. For example, your name and birthdate aren’t shared with Google when you link your ID.

Any data, including data used for analytics purposes, used by Google will be done in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.
