Troubleshoot Meet recording: Why can't a user record?

Data storage issues:

Recording is off:

  • Recording is off for the meeting owner.
  • Recording is off for specific people.
    • For example, out-of-domain participants in non-moderated meetings and participants who aren’t hosts in moderated meetings can’t record meetings.

Recording is unavailable:

  • Recording is unavailable for participants from outside the host's organization.
  • Recording is unavailable when Host Management is turned on and the host doesn't let people record.
  • Recording is unavailable in breakout rooms.

Google Classroom & Education edition extra issues:

  • Teachers aren't signed in to their Google Workspace account.
  • Students can only record if the meeting organizer is a teacher or co-teacher.

  4. Click Recording and check or uncheck the Let people record their meetings box.
  5. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.
