Troubleshoot Workspace Studio for your users

If people in your organization have trouble accessing Google Workspace Studio or using specific features, it could be due to settings in your Admin console.

Issue Fix

Can’t access the Workspace Studio web app

  • Make sure their license supports Studio. Supported editions for this feature: Business Starter, Business Standard, and Business Plus; Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus; Education Fundamentals, Education Standard and Education Plus. Compare your edition. Supported add-ons for this feature: Google AI Ultra for Business, Google AI Pro for Education. Compare add-ons
  • Turn on Studio for that user. Studio is on by default unless you turn off new products when released.

Can’t access Workspace Studio in a Workspace app sidepanel, such as Gmail

If you have data region policies turned on, people can’t open the Studio sidepanel in an app if you select Disable features that may process data across multiple regions for that app.

For example, if you don’t allow data processing across multiple regions for Gmail, people can’t open the Studio side panel in Gmail.

Can’t use steps and starters for a specific app

  • People must have access to an app in order to use starters and steps for that app. For example, if Google Chat is turned off for your organization, people can’t use Chat steps in their agents. Learn how to view which apps are turned on for a user.
  • If you use API controls to limit access to Workspace services, you might need to trust the apps that Workspace Studio uses to connect to those services and exempt them from Context Aware-Access rules. Learn more about Studio and API controls

Can’t find Integrations or Google Workspace add-ons for Studio in Google Workspace Marketplace

Your Marketplace admin settings might block access to these listings. To troubleshoot:

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Click User Install Settings.
  3. In the Manage access to apps section, check the setting:
    1. If it’s set to Don’t allow, users can’t install any apps from Marketplace, including Integrations. Consider setting up an allowlist or allowing all instead.
    2. If it’s set to allow only allowlisted apps, you probably need to allowlist the app. Go on to the next step.
  4. At the left, click Apps list.
  5. At the top of the list, click Allowlisted Apps.
  6. Search for the Integration or add-on.
    1. If it’s not listed, allowlist the app.
    2. If it’s in the list and the Distribution column has Allowed for some users, you probably need to update which users have access. Go on to the next step.
  7. To check which users have access, click the app.
  8. In the Allowlist Access section, click View organizational units and groups.
  9. Check that list against the user’s organizational unit and groups. Learn how to view a user’s group memberships.
    1. If they don’t have access, either add them to a group that has access, or create a group for them and give that group access.
