Understand a SharePoint Online migration report (beta)

Migrating files from SharePoint Online using the new data migration service is currently in beta and subject to the Pre-General Availability Offerings Terms in the Google Workspace Service Specific Terms.

You can access a report with detailed information on the items in your Microsoft SharePoint Online migration.

Access the report

You must be signed in as a super administrator for this task.

  1. Sign in with a super administrator account to the Google Admin console.

    If you aren’t using a super administrator account, you can’t complete these steps.

  2. At the top, click Go to data migration (New).
  3. For Microsoft SharePoint Online, click Migrate.
  4. Click Export migration report.
  5. If the Tasks list doesn't open automatically with the downloaded report, click Tasks .
  6. For Your Tasks, click the link to open the report in Google Sheets.

Interpret the migration report

You can use the migration report to identify items that didn't migrate and the reasons they weren’t copied.

  1. Verify that the Microsoft administrator account has the Global Administrator role.
  2. Run a delta migration for SharePoint Online.

Failed to crawl parent item permissions while crawling permissions for Drive ID drive_id and source ItemId item_id

A temporary error. Run a delta migration.

Failed to crawl folder for Drive ID: drive_id, Folder ID: folder_id

The folder crawling failed from SharePoint Online. 

  1. Check the report for the listed folder ID to find out why it failed. 
  2. Correct the error and run a delta migration.

Found microsoft drive item with restricted permissions. Drive id: drive_id, Item id: item_id.

A SharePoint Online file or folder has restricted permissions. Items with restricted permissions are not supported by the tool.
Atleast <role> role is required on target item to perform step: <step>

A file or folder has insufficient permissions.

  1. Check the error report and find the file or folder.
  2. Add the required permissions.
  3. Run a delta migration.

For example, if you get the error message Atleast WRITER role is required on target item to perform step: SHAREPOINT_SITE_CREATOR, then you need to add the required permissions.

TargetGUser does not have edit access on target parent folder The Workspace user does not have Manager permission on the folder in shared drives.
  1. Find the folder.
  2. Grant the permission for the user.
  3. Run a delta migration.
  4. Make sure you don't remove the users assigned as Target GUser in the uploaded file.

File has been modified

File was modified while migration was in progress. Run a delta migration.

File was deleted during migration

File was deleted in SharePoint Online while the migration was in progress. Run a delta migration.

Item modified by application on source migrated with file owner as modifier File or folder was modified by an application. This is a warning and does not block migration.
Item created by application on source migrated with drive owner as creator File or folder was created by an application. This is a warning and does not block migration.
Failed to create permissions for driveId exampleDriveId for recipients [recipient1, recipient2] due to invalid target identity Permission could not be created because the user does not exist in Workspace. This error could be due to an error in the identity mapping or a source that was incorrectly imported through unmapped identity settings. Resolve the issue and run a delta migration.
Item creator email address is invalid or does not exist Failed to create permissions for a file or folder owner due to invalid target identity. Check the identity map or unmapped identity settings for mistakes and then run a delta migration.
Mapped creator does not have access to edit the target item, Target GUser mapped as creator File or folder was not mapped to Workspace. This is a warning and does not block migration.
TargetGUser does not have access on target parent folder The Workspace user needs edit access to the parent folder of the failed file or folder.
  1. Find the folder.
  2. Grant access to the Workspace user on the parent folder.
  3. Run a delta migration.
Ensure that target folder <folderId> exists and <targetGUser> has manager access to it Make sure the Workspace user specified in the sites and site collections file has Manager permissions for the shared drive.
Target folder <folder> needs to be under a shared drive The folder ID specified in the sites and site collections file does not correspond to a shared drive. Update the file with the correct folder ID.

Error occurred while generating user credential. Domain wide delegation can take up to 24 hours but typically happens more quickly. Please try running a delta migration after few hours


 
Transient issue that sometimes occurs for newly created users. Wait a while and then run a delta migration.
Item cannot be migrated since the item creator is not part of the source organization File or folder owner is an external user or is not part of your organization. This file or folder cannot be migrated.
We weren't able to share your file with [email protected] There's a problem with this email or domain User email address is invalid or does not exist. Check the identity map or unmapped identity settings for errors.
User provided in identity mapping does not belong to a Workspace customer

The identity map has an invalid Workspace email address.

  1. Remove the identity map.
  2. Correct the destination email ID.
  3. Upload the identity map again.
For details, go to Create an identity map from SharePoint Online to Workspace.
Internal error occurred A temporary error. Run a delta migration.
Found entries missing in the identity mapping for <username>

A SharePoint Online user is not mapped to a Workspace user in the identity map.

  1. Remove the identity map.
  2. Correct the mapping.
  3. Upload the identity map again.
For details, go to Create an identity map from SharePoint Online to Workspace.
The item shared with "Anyone with the link" on the source could not be shared with the same setting on the target file on Google Drive Anonymous link permission was not migrated for the item. For details, go to Manage external sharing for your organization.
Google Drive storage quota has been exceeded. Please increase the storage quota to migrate more data. Drive storage quota is exceeded. Increase storage to migrate more data. For details, go to Storage and upload limits for Google Workspace.

  2. Correct the error in the parent folder. 
  3. Run a delta migration.
