Let users show their names in meeting rooms

Want to know the names of people in meeting rooms? When a user checks into a meeting room on their device with Companion mode, the user's name appears on the room tile. If a checked-in user raises their hand during the meeting, the moderator will know which user in the room is raising their hand.

Before you begin

Turn room check-in on or off for your users

Users can check into rooms by default, but you can turn off that ability with the admin console.

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Click Meet safety settings.
  3. (Optional) To apply the setting only to some users, at the side, select an organizational unit (often used for departments) or configuration group (advanced). Show me how

Group settings override organizational units. Learn more

  4. Click Room check-in and check or uncheck the All users can check in to eligible rooms box.
  5. Click Save. Or, you might click Override for an organizational unit.

To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit (or Unset for a group).

Changes can take up to 24 hours but typically happen more quickly. Learn more
